what about makeup? Isn't that changing yourself too? (I'm not suggesting anything). |

| I am Christian. I am also pre-med. But, I've never seen any reason to believe that plastic surgery is wrong. |

| hmmmmm.... So God created us into the people he wants us to be, and now you go and change yourself. Isn't that telling God your not satisfied with the way you look? I wouldn't go against it, because there have been many christians, like Frank Peretti who did go through suregy, to change the outlook of his face. And look how blessed he is.... |

I think it's silly to go around and pick one thing at a time and ask whether God would approve or not...seems to becoming a trend on the site.
God gave us a brain and expects us to use it. We do many things during everyday that have nothing to do with our walks with Him, and so it doesn't really matter. I'm sure God doesn't care if you wet your toothbrush before brushing your teeth or not (do you? lol).
With that said, some things obviously would effect our walks with Him, but I believe they're not these petty things - we need to let the Holy Spirit answer all these little things for us personally, since it could be different for everyone (I hope you know what I mean, I don't feel like explaining that). I think with a lot of these kinds of questions we need to look at the reasoning behind it as opposed to the actual thing itself...anyway, point is that we should spend more time learning and conforming to Jesus' character than waste our time with petty things. |

| good idea!!!!! personally it's better to go to God, then come on here to talk about all these certain issues. Personally we won't get all the right answers on here, because people don't have all the answers. But if you just go and spend time in the word and in prayer, you'll find that God is the correct answer, and he has the answer for every single problem. So then the question would be why are we looking for answers on the net rather then going to God??? |

I think you misunderstood my point a bit. I think it's amazing that a bunch of Christians can come together through a medium with no boundaries (the internet) and discuss meaningful things to our lives! It's truly a blessing for me personally, and I know at least a few people have told me they've been blessed as well.
My point was this. Why spend time discussing all the little insignificant issues, instead of the more important ones that'll actually have an impact in our lives! For example, we should discuss God's plan for our lives and see how we fit into it. Of course that kind of discussion will have a lot less interest from most people, but hey, even if it changes the lives of 5% of the readers than God's done an amazing work!
On top of that, this kind of thing is a great place for us to talk about how God's worked in our lives everyday and bless each other through that! |

normal makeup ("If the barn needs painting, paint it" type makeup) makes you presentable for the world. It can be used for enhancing yoru appearance or you can get overfixed on it and it can become wrong in HOW you wear it..
hmm.. plastic surgery.. the actual thing is just like makeup.. .but with the cost involved and high focus on your appearance, i wouldn't be able to do it with a clear conscience.
maybe if you're rich and you can afford it, and it doesn't reflect a giant amount of vanity, its fine. |

| I think plastic surgery is very wrong, too...I know people use make-up and do things like shower and brush their hair to look better, but I think things like that are TOTALLY different! Plastic surgery changes the way you look; other things improve it...I doubt Jesus would walk around unbathed, and the Bible even says to keep yourself clean and presentable to the world...I don't believe, however, that plastic surgery falls into the same category...God made you the way He wants you...If your look is affecting your health (no, being "depressed" doesn't count, lol) then I think it's a different situation. For example, your mouth could be on the side of the face and eating could be VERY difficult, or you could be like a conjoined twin or something...In cases like that, I believe it's okay, but you need to be able to draw a line between the two. |

uh, here's something i'd like to add. if you're ugly i don't think it really matters to christian, well, shouldn't. the world worries about those things, the bible tells us that we don't fear the same things they do, because they're worried about what is here and now. we are not under the laws of man. it also says not too worry where your food comes from because the Lord provides. if the Lord feeds the sparrows, then hw much more important are we? would christ have gotten plastic surgery because he was ugly? i'm sorry if you think that way. Christ was only focused on the Father, what interested the Father.
think about this, would you come to Christ and ask him to heal you of your ugliness? would that be wasting the Lord's time? does your ugliness or insecurity ail you physically? because remember, the Lord heals you emotionally, so if it does not ail you, i don't think anything should be done. besides, by doing this, is your money really going to good use? if you were poor could you do this? no. does it serve much purpose to God. unless God reveals something to you that we don't know, i think not. love not the world my friends. |

What you guys are saying is true...our looks are irrelevant to our walks with God - and that should be our number one priority.
However, as I've said a number of times before, as soon as we are saved we are not automatically perfected (in our Spirits we are, but not our Souls and Bodies). So, it may take Christians a while before God shows them the irrelevancy of these things. They in themselves are not WRONG per se. It's just the reasons why you'd want them. But, it's important that we don't go around judging others that do use extensive make up or get plastic surgery. We should just pray for God to reveal Himself to them, and they will automatically lose interest in those things.
That's pretty much true with almost any topic we have on whether or not something is "wrong". |

This same argument could be applied against makeup. Does that make makeup bad? |

Is eye surgery wrong? By your argument, eye surgery is changing they way we were initially created, therefore it is wrong. |

If someone gets 1st degree burns all over their face, is it OK to get skin replacement? We do have some of this technology now, and the body does heal, so the surgery is cosmetic. Should we condemn these people to walk around with their terrible affliction for the rest of their life?? |

i think that plastic surgery is ok if thers a problem like a burn on the face. i mean, God's not tellin us to walk around with a bad burn on our faces.
my mom has a huge scar from a burn she had a long time ago on her arm. she hardly wears t-shirts cus shes embarrassed by it. so i think its ok IF she wants to get that fixed. its not like its gonna pull her away from God or anything like that. and thats the most important thing. |
