OK! Modesty is thought of as a woman's issue. Church addresses it when talking to women. Etc, etc! I totally agree that we ladies shouldn't be showing off too much skin, but what about guys?! Guys can walk around with out their shirts on, or in muscle shirts, etc, and it's not addressed whatsover...so...I've taken that duty upon myself!
I'll use an example from personal experience. I was sitting in church a few months ago, and thsis guy came in and sat down in front of me in a muscle shirt (he had amazing arms by the way...) and for the rest of the service, I was so busy staring at HIM that I barely heard anything the pastor was saying I know that some of it was MY fault, but at the same time, it was also his. I think that guys don't even start to consider modesty when putting on an outfit.
They always tell girls to "not be a stumbling block for your brothers in Christ" but I would appreciate it (as well as a lot of other girls!) if you men could do the same for us...don't be a stumbling block! I'm very happy for you if you have a great body, but please cover it up in public. Girls are trying just as hard as guys are to keep our minds pure. It's true that guys are more visually stimulated than girls are, but I think that guys forget that girls aren't ammune to that sort of thing.
Anyway, what I'm trying to say is...Guys, help us out a little, as we (the majority of your sisters in Christ) are doing for you.

IT'S A MIRACLE!
umm i mean...
Guys get to go around like Tarzan if they want to, with a skimpy scrap of cloth around their waist, but if a woman does something like that ,ohhh no...
buuuuut then, I would not say too much about it, since I have found that I am so far from normal that no one else qould agree with me usually. Or, well, not listen in the first place.
yeah people always say this "visual" thing, but I am such a freak that I daresay I'm "visual" too. Of course, I need to have glasses on, or else I can't see anything more than a couple inches from my face, but still, i mean with normal vision. I'm a freak of a girl... But still... thanks for bringing it up... man I was starting to wonder
oh yeah and on the other side of the coin, I don't mean to be critical, but some of these dudes go around in full view with no shirt on like they are so hot, but it's just annoying. HAHA. You know what I mean, older men, that look like my dad. Even my mom doesn't like that. Not that she's big on my dad or anything
sorry that post didn't make any sense |

Hey, I'm sorry to you girls who try to abide by the common rule, if there are guys who walk around without a shirt, thinking that they can just do that, BUT the majority of guys are NOT at all like that. I agree that there are a handful of guys who choose to show off their "great" bods, but there are plenty of "modest" guys if you look.
Heheh, I do disagree with the fact that some ppl, don't dress appropriately when they go to church. I mean, it isn't about what your wearing, but it would be nice if some ppl cared enough that they would put on something nice.
Lol, sorry to rant on, just thought i'd share my views if nebody cares.

| Until recently, I didn't realize what kind of effect a shirtless man could have on a woman...you're right; it's a subject that just isn't brought up that often in church (or elsewhere, for that matter). |

My view?
I honestly believe its hipocritical for our society to find it acceptable for a man to be in public without a shirt, and for a woman to not.
So with that said, my personal views on gender modesty, well, is the same for both. And in reality, girls can get away with more in certian areas..... let me explain.

So obviously you don't think a guy should go to church in a muscle-t. BUT what about during the summer on a hot day, is it ok for a girl to wear a tank top, *or a sleeveless dress* in church?
At my church, because of the weather pretty much all the girls wear tight, tank tops and shorts, or skirt,s or dresses *basicly summer dresses* and thats considered OK, as long as their bellies arn't shown. however any guy walks in wearing a tank top *be it a cheep muscle-t, or a $50 Norsdroms sleeveless shirt* and he's considered immodest.
Just something to think about

Finally!
That's so true. For me, its movies. Most actors are really good looking. In the movies, it's considered okay for them to walk around in their boxers. Sometimes, I literally have to cover my eyes b/c I know that a good-looking, scantily-clad guy can casue me to stumble. So, guys, if you're one of the mucle-tee or no shirt wearing kind, give us a break. A lot of girls do it for you...
Thanks! |

Around our house I go all the time without t-shirt...It's like no big deal. I've talked to my sister about it too, and she said it wasn't an issue for her.
But then again there are other people out there.
Darn. Now you gals are gonna make me feel guily every time I go topless in public...And what about all my sleeveless shirts |

gah...tired....
I am a visual person to... although, if I need to not be visual, I can just take off my glasses. You know that chart that they test your eyes with?
With glasses:
"E t-u-p-o-f...." etc.
Without glasses:
"E."
hehehehehe.... ex-dee.... |

I wonder what sins blind people typically struggle with.
Cause we with eyes that can see seem to trip over them all the time. |

What an interesting question! I've never thought of that.
Thanks also to everyone for responding, this is really interesting to read all your opinions!

I'm sure an active imagination can pretty much make up for sight. And there's still the need for touch...
If your right eye causes you to sin, gouge it out and throw it away
we all ought to be blind |
